FAQ #1

What is Yoga?

The literal meaning of yoga is "union" or "communion." Yoga is the most ancient and respected of natural methods for achieving and maintaining a high level of physical, mental and emotional health. The movements of yoga are extremely profound in nature. They reach deep into the organism to massage, stimulate, relieve tension, work out stiffness, release trapped energy, revitalize and assist in overcoming many physical and emotional problems and disorders.

Hatha Yoga is a system of physical exercises called "asanas" (i.e. postures) whose purpose is to bring conscious mental control over the physical body. It is the perfect lifetime fitness program. The approach to yoga practice is totally different from that of any other. First, you quiet the mind and emotions. Then, performing the exercises, you move slowly holding your extreme position for a brief interval while your mind is fully focused on what the body is feeling.
