FAQ #4
Why is the room hot?
The room is kept hot intentionally. The heat allows your body to warm up quickly to reduce the possibility of injury to your muscles, joints, and tendons. It allows you to work deeply and safely. The heat also promotes sweating, which helps to flush toxins from your body.
What if I get too hot?
The heat may be challenging the first couple of classes but you will get used to it sooner than you think if you come to class regularly. The best thing to do if you feel that you are overheating is to lie down and take long, deep breaths in and out through the nose. Do not leave the room. You won't die from the heat. Really. You may be overheating because you are holding your breath and creating tension in your body. All you need to do is reconnect to the breath, regain your focus, and then rejoin the class when you are ready.
Will I get used to the heat?
Yes. Initially, you may find working in a heated room challenging, but after a few classes you will begin to adjust and eventually get used to being in the heat, if you continue to attend class regularly. You may even find that you miss the heat when doing other kinds of workout! Pretty soon you'll start saying things like "It's not hot enough in here." Give yourself a month or so of coming to class regularly before you decide how you feel about the heat. Some days will be better than others and that's true no matter how long you've been practicing.
