FAQ #6

What if I feel sick during class?

It is possible you may feel light-headed, dizzy, or even a little nauseous the first couple of times you attend a yoga class. This is a common and perfectly normal reaction. Your body is moving in ways it never had before and the heat does take some getting used to. It is totally okay, and even encouraged, to lie down and rest if you feel sick at any time during class. There is a difference between working hard and killing yourself. Please listen to and honor your body.

Drink lots of water after class to flush out the toxins and re-hydrate your body. We recommend adding a packet of Emergen-C to your water to make sure you replenish your electrolytes. Coconut water is even better: it contains 5 different electrolytes, including 670 mg of potassium per serving (15 times more than most sports drinks without all the unhealthy additives) so it is a natural sports drink. Potassium prevents cramping and promotes recovery. You can find coconut water and Emergen-C at PCC, Whole Foods Market, and the natural food isle of most grocery stores.

If you feel disoriented or like you need a good nap after your first few classes, this is likely because your body has begun to cleanse itself as a result of the yoga practice. Don't be scared. After the first few classes this sensation will pass. The more you can relax as you give your 100% honest effort during class, the more energized you will feel throughout the class and throughout the rest of your day.
